A sweet way to wrap up six months full of discoveries!

Our young adventurers wrapped up a six-month project with an unforgettable visit to the Chocolate Museum in Hamburg.

The goal of the project was to give refugee children moments of escape, cultural discovery, and joy through a series of enriching field trips.

Between learning about the history of cacao, interactive workshops, and tastings, this final activity was the icing on the cake!

A huge thank you to the German Children’s Fund (Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk) for making this wonderful, heartwarming adventure possible.

Workshop: women’s health, pregnancy, birth and the time that follows

A successful workshop: women’s health, pregnancy, birth and the time that follows.

Our workshop on 17 October 2026, held as part of the project “Ankommen & Verstehen – Savoir-vivre in Deutschland”, was a great success.

An afternoon rich in valuable information, personal experience, open questions and rewarding conversation.

The strong interest and the many questions showed us once again how much such opportunities for information and exchange matter to women with a migration background.

The need is great. We are therefore already planning further, more in-depth workshops, to engage more closely with the different topics and needs the women raise.

Our warm thanks to our speaker, the midwife Shirley, for her commitment and her valuable information, to all the participants for their trust and active involvement, and to our volunteers.

Special thanks to the Sozialbehörde Hamburg for funding and supporting our project, and to the Bürgerhaus Bornheide for their cooperation.

Past

First capoeira session at the Bürgerhaus Bornheide

Capoeira, movement and a great deal of joy!

On 3 October 2026 our first capoeira session took place at the Bürgerhaus Bornheide. The children got to know this Brazilian martial art, to move and to gather new experiences together.

We are already looking forward to the next session on 17 October.

Our warm thanks to our capoeira trainer and to the BürgerStiftung Hamburg for its funding through the “Hamburger Spielräume” fund.

Past

Intercultural day of encounter and information at the Bürgerhaus Bornheide

Arriving. Connecting. Shaping things together — for a strong sense of community.

On 3 October 2026 we organised an intercultural day of encounter and information at the Bürgerhaus Bornheide.

At its heart were encounter, integration, participation in society and voluntary commitment.

We had the chance to present the work of Hajia Adiza e.V. and our various projects, to share experiences and to talk together about the challenges and the possibilities of arriving in Hamburg.

The personal conversations, the new contacts and the open exchange with participants and local organisations were especially valuable.

Our warm thanks to everyone who took part, to our volunteers, and to all who helped shape the day.

Special thanks to the House of Resources Hamburg / Paritätischer Hamburg for their financial support and their trust in our work.

Because integration succeeds where people meet one another, support one another and move things forward together.

Past

Distribution of school supplies in Sokodé, Togo

For the third year running, the association Hajia Adiza e.V. Togo organised a distribution of school supplies. This year the initiative took place in Sokodé, in Togo’s central region.

In all, 112 pupils from various communes of Sokodé received school supplies: primary school children as well as secondary school students.

The joy of the children and the relief of their parents moved us deeply.

We are very proud that this project continues year after year and keeps growing. This year we were also supported by an external donor, whom we thank wholeheartedly.

Our thanks go to the whole team of our association, to all our volunteers and to our donors. Thank you to everyone whose commitment and support made this fine initiative a success.

Let us go on promoting education together and opening up better prospects for children and young people.

Past

Workshop “Sport, health and family”: living more consciously, together

Our workshop was a great success and aroused keen interest among the participants.

Together we talked about how important movement, healthy eating and a conscious way of life are for our health. What mattered most to us was the view from our children and families: healthy habits often begin at home, and what we pass on and model for our children today can stay with them for years.

Living in a new country can change the way people eat, go about their day and move. All the more reason to seek out information, to pay attention to one’s own body, and to build an awareness of health within the family itself.

Many participants went home with new insights, fresh motivation and personal resolutions, and that is precisely what pleases us most.

Our warm thanks to the Sozialbehörde Hamburg for funding and supporting our project, to our coach Nafiou for his knowledge and valuable input, to all the participants for their openness and lively exchange, and to our volunteers, without whose commitment events like these would not be possible.

Together for more health, more movement and stronger families!

Past

Completion of our school building project at CEG Amadenta, Legbassito

It is with great joy that we look back on the successful completion of our school building project at CEG Amadenta in Legbassito, Togo.

Behind this project lies a long stretch of preparation, planning and cooperation. Over many months, people worked together to turn an idea into reality. Today we are glad that the pupils can learn in a safe and modern classroom.

Our particular thanks go to the Schmitz Stiftungen and to our partner association OASIS ASSO for a collaboration built on trust. We are equally grateful to the local and regional authorities, the school management, the teaching staff, the parents’ committee, the village community, the construction workers, all our volunteers and every supporter whose commitment contributed to the success of this project.

This project shows vividly what strong partnerships, mutual trust and joint action can achieve. The joy of the children and of the whole school community is our greatest motivation to carry on.

Together we are improving access to education and investing lastingly in the future of the next generation.

Many thanks to everyone who made this success possible.

Past

Workshop “Finding housing in Hamburg”

On 25 July 2026 we were glad to welcome many interested women to the Bürgerhaus Bornheide for our workshop on finding housing in Hamburg.

Together we discussed the housing search, housing support and the key places to turn to. The active involvement of the participants was especially gratifying: many questions were asked, experiences were shared, and solutions were sought together. Thanks to on-site childcare, mothers too could attend the workshop undisturbed.

Our warm thanks to our speaker Stephan Peiffer for his committed and informative talk, and to all the participants for the open and respectful exchange.

Special thanks to the Sozialbehörde Hamburg, the city’s social affairs authority, which makes this project possible and supports it.

Together we open up prospects, step by step.

Past

Visit to the KL!CK Kindermuseum in Hamburg

On 20 June 2026, the children of our Starke Herzen project were able to visit the KL!CK Kindermuseum in Hamburg.

During the interactive tour on the theme of great-grandmother’s daily life, the children discovered what everyday life used to look like. They washed laundry on a washboard in a zinc tub, made pasta by hand and explored a 1950s flat.

With great curiosity and delight they tried things out, asked questions and, almost in passing, learned a great deal about life in earlier times. It was a lovely and instructive afternoon that everyone will remember.

Our warm thanks to the team of the KL!CK Kindermuseum Hamburg for the attentive tour and the kind welcome.

We also thank the BürgerStiftung Hamburg, whose funding under our “Starke Herzen” project makes such valuable experiences possible for children.

Special thanks go as well to our volunteers, who accompany our projects with great commitment and support the children in every activity. Without them, outings like these would not be possible.

Thank you to everyone who made this day possible.

Past

Workshop with women and mothers: children, language and integration

On Saturday 30 May 2026 we spent a fine and informative afternoon with women and mothers. Together we talked about supporting children, the importance of language and the challenges of integration.

The openness of the exchange was especially gratifying. The participants were able to share their experiences, ask questions and give one another advice. There was plenty of room for making new contacts as well.

Many thanks to everyone who came and enriched the workshop with their contributions.

Special thanks to the Sozialbehörde Hamburg, the city’s social affairs authority, for supporting the project.

Past

Official launch of our school building project in Lomé, Togo

On Thursday 21 May 2026, the official launch event for our project to build a classroom at CEG Amadenta took place.

During this important meeting we visited the project site together and exchanged views with a range of local stakeholders: the parents’ committee, the local development committee, the environmental committee, the teaching staff and the school’s headteacher.

The discussions reaffirmed the shared agreements and underlined how much the cooperation of everyone involved matters. Only through collective commitment, responsibility and transparency can this project succeed and contribute lastingly to better learning conditions.

Together we are investing in education, and so in the children’s future.

Our warm thanks to all partners and participants for their trust and their support.

Project partners: Schmitz Stiftung – Oasis Asso

The EZ-Kleinprojektefonds, the German fund for small-scale development cooperation projects, is substantially supported by funds from the BMZ, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Outing to JUMP House Hamburg

An unforgettable day full of joy and movement.

On 16 May 2026, Hajia Adiza e.V. organised an outing to JUMP House Hamburg for fifteen children from families with a migration background and from disadvantaged circumstances. Together the children could play, laugh, make new friends and simply enjoy a fine day.

The day was marked by a sense of community, by fun and by many happy moments. Activities like these strengthen the children’s self-confidence and foster cohesion and integration.

Our warm thanks to all the supporters who made this project possible.

Past

Creativity and sustainability at GUT Karlshöhe

On 18 April, children took part in a creative upcycling workshop at GUT Karlshöhe. With great delight and imagination, they made their own purses out of empty milk cartons.

Beyond the crafting itself, the day was about learning together, creativity and environmental awareness. The children greatly enjoyed the various activities and could see for themselves how something new and useful comes out of old materials.

Our warm thanks to the Hamburger Spielräume thematic fund of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg for supporting this lovely project.

Past

Christmas joy for disadvantaged children in Hamburg

Thanks to the generous support of the fund of Hamburg’s Authority for Justice and Consumer Protection, Hajia Adiza e.V. was able to hold a special Christmas event for disadvantaged children in Hamburg-Osdorf, just before the holidays.

On 13 December 2025, more than fifty children came together for a warm, joyful and unforgettable morning. At its heart was the handing out of carefully chosen Christmas presents, alongside sweets, games and music. The laughter, the delight and the children’s shining eyes set the tone of this lovely gathering.

The event gave the children more than presents: above all it gave them time, attention and a sense of community, values that matter especially at this time of year.

For many of them it was a special moment of welcome, of recognition and of hope.

We sincerely thank Hamburg’s Authority for Justice and Consumer Protection for supporting this initiative, and everyone whose help made it possible.

Together we bring joy; together we create hope.

Past

Woodworking and boat-building at the Werkkiste

Woodworking and boat-building: a creative day at the Werkkiste.

On Saturday our children were at the Werkkiste. Many of them handled real tools for the first time: sawing, sanding, filing. And in doing so they discovered something important:

“I really can do this myself!”

Simple pieces of wood became small boats, complete with mast and sail. When the children finally held their finished boats in their hands, you could see how proud they were.

In between there were snacks and drinks, and the children helped one another, shared ideas and built together. For many families this day mattered a great deal, because activities like these are often hard to come by.

What the day produced:

  • boats they built themselves
  • many happy faces and new experiences

A big thank you to the Stiftung Hamburger Wohnen, which made this outing possible, and to our volunteer team for their guidance, patience and support.

Together we create spaces for creativity, courage and self-confidence.

Past

DT4SI mobility in France

After ten intense days of workshops, discoveries and intercultural encounters, the mobility of the DT4SI project – Digital Technologies for Social Inclusion has come to a close in Paris.

From 20 to 29 October 2025, thirty young people from France, Germany and Turkey explored together how digital tools can become levers for inclusion and employability.

  • Sessions on digital recruitment
  • Meetings with entrepreneurs and experts
  • Creating video CVs and an introduction to social film
  • Workshops on the theme of a “Green Europe”
  • Intercultural evenings and the Youthpass ceremony

These ten days were a unique human and professional experience, marked by solidarity, creativity and commitment. The young participants return home inspired, more confident and better prepared to meet the challenges of today’s world of work.

But the DT4SI adventure continues. Until February 2026 the teams are carrying the work forward with a collective film, a digital magazine and local outreach activities, to share what the project has taught with a wider audience.

Past

Annual general meeting of AGIJ e.V.

On 16 October 2025, Hajia Adiza e.V. took part in the annual general meeting of AGIJ e.V. The member associations came together to receive the activity report of the past two years, to share experiences and to take important decisions for the future.

A significant item on the agenda was the election of a new board. We warmly congratulate the newly elected board members and thank the outgoing board for its committed and valuable work on behalf of young people and diversity in Hamburg.

Particularly pleasing was the admission of four new member associations into the umbrella organisation. We welcome them warmly and look forward to an inspiring collaboration and to new synergies within the network.

We thank AGIJ e.V. for organising the meeting, and all the participating associations for the constructive exchange. It was a pleasure for Hajia Adiza e.V. to be there and to contribute actively to strengthening our shared commitment to young people.

Past

Outing to Rabatz Hamburg

On 3 October we took many children on a wonderful outing to Rabatz Hamburg. It was a very special day, not only because it was a public holiday, but because so many children were eager to come along. Demand was so high that we sadly had to turn a few away, as the list was already full.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there was playing, romping, laughing and eating together. It was lovely to see how much the children enjoyed themselves and how well they shared the day with one another.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Hamburger Wohnen foundation for the support that made this outing possible, and an equally big thank you to our volunteer helpers, who are always there when it matters. Their commitment is what turns every outing into a fine experience, for the children and for the parents alike.

Days like these remind us how important shared moments are, and how much happiness lies in small things.

Past

Music workshop with Toto Lightman

On Saturday 20 September 2025, the children could really feel the mood at our music workshop with Toto Lightman.

With music, rhythm and a great deal of fun, our young participants not only gave free rein to their creativity, they also learned to make music together, in time with one another.

Our warm thanks go to all the families who came, and to the Hamburger Wohnen foundation for its generous support.

Snacks and drinks were not forgotten either, which turned playing music together into a thoroughly joyful experience.

We are already looking forward to the next activities and to more unforgettable moments with you.

Migration connects us – Empowerment Day

Workshops, stories, encounters. On Saturday 6 September 2025, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., we held a special Empowerment Day at the Rosa Haus in the Bürgerhaus Osdorf, supported by the Ökumenewerk of the Nordkirche.

A full day of orientation, exchange and mutual strengthening, built around six themes:

  • Personal development: stepping out of the comfort zone, finding courage and unfolding one’s potential
  • Self-employment and starting a business
  • Cultural identity and traditions
  • Finding housing and moving
  • Language and German courses
  • Job search and further training

The dialogue between the generations was especially valuable: younger and older participants shared their experiences, learned from one another and found mutual inspiration. Important contacts were gathered and shared in a WhatsApp group so that everyone stays connected over the long term.

The day was family-friendly, with care packages and plenty of room for networking.

Our warm thanks to everyone who took part, and to the Ökumenewerk of the Nordkirche for its support.

A Week of Escape for Refugee Children – Nature, Discoveries and Smiles on the Agenda!

At the end of July, Hajia Adiza e.V. is organizing an exceptional week for ten refugee children aged 5 to 10. Accompanied by three adults, they will enjoy adventures in a location that is still to be chosen, but will be as close to nature as possible.

The stay will offer numerous activities around the farm, as well as outdoor excursions, games, cultural discoveries, and educational moments. The goal: to give these children a genuine moment of joy, respite, and personal growth, far away from the sometimes difficult realities of their daily lives.

This project is made possible through the valuable support of the German Children’s Fund (Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk), whom we warmly thank for their trust.

We are currently fine-tuning all the details to make this week an unforgettable experience. The selection of the children is well underway, and the excitement is already building!

Connected Horizons: A New Phase Begins with Our European Collaborative Project!

Today marks the official launch of a new phase of our Connected Horizons programme: a European collaborative project carried out in partnership with JUCUM (Spain) and Universal View (France) as part of the Erasmus+ programme.

Connected Horizons aims to build bridges between young people across Europe by promoting intercultural dialogue, social inclusion, and civic engagement. The project focuses particularly on the active participation of young people from migrant backgrounds, disadvantaged communities, or underrepresented neighbourhoods.

The collaborative project launched today is a space for exchange, co-creation, and shared learning. It includes workshops, mobility activities, artistic and cultural activities, discussions on social challenges, and above all, the highlighting of young voices that are too often invisible.

This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to share our experiences, work together to develop local responses to global challenges, and foster a more united, aware, and engaged European youth.

We warmly thank Erasmus+ for its support and our partners in Spain and France for this great synergy.

Connected Horizons has only just begun. Together, we will shape the future.

This outing gave the children the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of zoology in an atmosphere that was both educational and fun. Curious and enthusiastic, they thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the many discoveries it offered. Their interest was so great that we stayed longer than originally planned.

The day ended with a shared meal, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant moment of togetherness.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Nordkirche for its valuable support, as well as to the mothers who accompany our outings with such dedication and willingness to help. Their contribution is essential in making these enriching experiences possible for the children.

A Helping Hand for a Great Start to the School Year in Legbassito (Lomé)

Just before the start of the school year, Hajia Adiza Togo carried out a meaningful solidarity initiative in Legbassito, a popular neighbourhood of Lomé, Togo: distributing school kits to children from families facing severe difficulties.

Several students received a school bag containing essential supplies: notebooks, pens, rulers, slates, and other materials needed for a good start to the school year.

This initiative aims to help address inequalities in access to education and encourage young people to believe in their future despite economic challenges.

This small but essential gesture reflects one of our organisation’s key commitments: supporting the education of vulnerable children wherever help is needed.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful initiative, both here and elsewhere.

A Gesture of Solidarity to End the Year with Dignity – Initiative in Porto-Novo (Agbokou), Benin

Ahead of the Christmas holidays, Hajia Adiza provided concrete support to particularly vulnerable families in the Agbokou district of Porto-Novo.

Food packages and essential everyday products were distributed to several households identified as being particularly vulnerable. The goal: to help them get through this sensitive period with a little more peace of mind, dignity, and hope.

This initiative is part of our commitment to fighting precarious living conditions, particularly during the Christmas season, when inequalities are painfully felt.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in one way or another to this solidarity initiative.
